Who We Are
We’re Smart Building Solutions, LLC—a small remodeling outfit based right here in McHenry. Most days you’ll find us in somebody’s kitchen, bathroom, or basement, taking apart spaces that never really worked and putting them back together so they finally do.
This didn’t start as some big company plan. It was a couple of us who knew how to build, got a chance, did a good job, and then got asked back… and then a neighbor called… and then a cousin. One project turned into another, and somewhere along the way this became “the crew people call when they’re tired of putting off the remodel.”
We’re not trying to be the biggest name in Illinois. We just want to do solid work for people who live where we live.

Years of Experience
After enough years in McHenry County homes, you start to recognize patterns. Old river houses with sloped floors and surprise framing. 80s subdivisions with tiny kitchens and low ceilings. Newer builds where everything is technically “fine,” but the layout never made sense for how people actually live. We’ve worked in all of it.That experience means we don’t walk in with a cookie-cutter answer. We look at how the house was built, what’s been done to it over the years, and what you’re dealing with day to day. Then we build a plan around that—not a generic idea pulled from a TV show.
Professional Team
We’re a small crew on purpose. You’ll see the same faces from the first walkthrough to the last touch-up.
We measure twice, argue over the little details (in a good way), and we’re not big on “good enough.” If a cabinet line looks off, a door rubs, or a transition screams at us every time we walk by, we’d rather fix it than pretend it’s fine.
We also keep learning—new products, better ways to waterproof showers, smarter layouts for tight spaces—because houses keep changing and so do the people who live in them.

For us, a job isn’t just about “finishing.” It’s about what you feel a few months later when the dust has settled and life is back to normal.
Some homeowners come in with a full vision: where the wall moves, what color the cabinets are, how big the shower should be. Others just say, “We hate this room. Help.” Either way is okay. We listen, ask questions, and try to land on a plan that fits your house, your budget, and your actual life—not just a pretty photo.
Most of our work comes from people talking—neighbors, coworkers, family. “They did our kitchen, call them.” That word-of-mouth means more to us than any ad ever will.
