Bathroom Remodeling
in Crystal Lake
You don't start thinking about your bathroom until it's constantly giving you trouble. The fan barely puts out any air, the bathroom is always dirty, the shower is tiny, and the vanity is cluttered with products because there's no other storage. You walk in every morning barely conscious and you think about all of the ways you'd change it.
That's what we're called to fix. At Smart Building Solutions, LLC we help Crystal Lake homeowners turn their cramped, cluttered bathrooms into something that's easier for everyone to use, and nicer to look at.
Crystal Lake has a lot of homes with different bathroom setups. Older ones near the downtown and lake have small, low-ceilinged bathrooms with renovations by the past owners. More modern ones have long, narrow bathrooms and small tubs. Even new ones have strange floorplans and fixtures that only end up feeling cramped as you start using them.
We'll come in and do a walk through and take measurements, and really listen to what you hate most about your bathroom. We've seen it all, from people who want to switch a tub for a larger shower, to people who just want more storage, better lighting and an overall less cramped feel. We'll lay out the options and come up with a plan that works for your bathroom.
Why People Call Us for Bathroom Remodeling in Crystal Lake
We’ve Seen It All
We've seen the doorways that are too tight to have a conversation while using the vanity at the same time. We've seen tight showers, cramped cabinets, and fans that don't get much air flowing. When we evaluate your bathroom, we don't just look at the fixtures and finisher. We see the cramped layout and awkward features waiting to be replaced with something better.
They’re Built to Last
Bathrooms are a tough place. The moisture, steam, water everywhere, damp towels, and long hot showers in winter (or summer for some of us). Poor installation underneath the tile grout can lead to cracking and other issues long after the project is done. We treat the underneath parts with the care they need to last well beyond this project. The waterproofing, air circulation, tile, and backing is all properly installed to keep the future owners (or current ones) from having to call for another repair.
Made Just for You
Every home's bathroom is used differently. It could be the only bathroom in the house, so it sees action twice a day. It could be a guest bathroom that's only used maybe three times a year. It could be somewhere you just want to relax after a long day at work, or it could be somewhere your kids have their fun. Depending on how the bathroom is used, we'll set up a plan for the layout and fixtures that make the most sense.
We Keep It Simple
When you're looking into bathrooms and home projects, they can seem extremely complicated. There's so many things to consider, like tile, flooring, fixtures, ventilation, lighting, and more. Our job is to make it all understandable and keep up the communication. We'll tell you what's going on and when, and if something comes up after tearing open a wall, we'll let you know and go over the options with you.

Our Bathroom Remodeling Process
We break down the project into easy to manage pieces that help keep you informed and on top of what's going on.
Consultation and Measurements
We'll come out and do a walk through and take measurements. Show us the tight shower, the storage issue, or fixtures that you'd like to replace.
We'll review the current layout and the plumbing and other things that affect the project. From there we'll go over the options and limitations of your bathroom.
Choose Your Layout and Look
This is where we'll go over the layout and options. What's your preference between shower versus tub, vanity sizes, possible storage locations and more. From there we'll go over the tile, flooring, fixtures, and materials that suit the layout and compliment each other without getting outdated. It should reflect the room and last beyond this project.
Custom Build
Your walls aren't always perfectly straight, your measurements aren't perfect, and your plumbing doesn't allow for standard layout. We'll make it work.
We'll take on the job with the necessary preparation, waterproofing, and backing to ensure the tile, glass, cabinets, and fixtures aren't underprepared for daily use.
Installation Days
Time to bring the project together. We'll install all of the necessary fixtures, tile, flooring, and more depending on your project. We'll keep you updated on what's been done, or what we've run into. This could include the plumbing, shower base, tile, flooring, vanity, toilet, ventilation, lighting and more that goes into a bathroom remodel.
Walkthrough and Tips
Once it's all done and the equipment has been put away, we'll go through the bathroom with you. We'll test out the shower, the fan, the toilet, and make sure all the doors and drawers open and close smoothly. If anything is wrong, we'll fix it. Along with some basic cleaning and maintenence advice for the new tile, stone, fixtures, and finishes.

Crystal Lake Homes and Midwest Weather
It can get pretty cold in Crystal Lake in the winter, not to mention the damp, moist weather we get throughout the year. Bathrooms take that full force, with their mirrors and towels collecting condensation and moisture and puddles forming on the floor. Hot showers in winter only add to the issue, as the steam adds to the moisture already in the bathroom. The improper or low quality ventilation and materials can then lead to peeling paint, mold, mildew, and generally poor condition of your new bathroom.
When planning your bathroom, we'll address the issues of ventilation, materials, and layout so the moisture can be removed from the air, repelled, and be resistant to mildew and mold.
