Kitchen Remodeling
in Crystal Lake

Where does it all happen? Morning coffee, homework at the counter, late night snacks, someone staring in the face of the fridge wondering what to eat. When the room is small, dark, and awkward to navigate it becomes a burden to deal with everyday.

At Smart Building Solutions, LLC, we help Crystal Lake homeowners with kitchens they have resigned themselves to. We assess the ways the room fails them, what tugs and pulls at their daily life, and start to make plans for change. We look at how the room is used, and what the homeowner truly needs to happen within it in order to serve them.

Crystal Lake is home to a wide variety of homes, many with vastly differing kitchen layouts. Older homes near downtown or the lake may have small kitchens with odd nooks or updates performed by previous owners. Kitchens in homes built later in the decades may have enclosed kitchens with less counter space. Newer kitchens may find themselves oddly sprawling.

Some know what they want. They may know they want to knock down a wall or bring in an island, or move the appliances along with the rest of the kitchen. Others simply know that they need more storage and space. Regardless, we will measure the room, discuss the possibilities, and make plans to remodel the kitchen.

Reasons Why Crystal Lake Homeowners Call Us

We’ve Seen It All

We've seen tight kitchens where two people cannot stand side by side. We've seen sprawling kitchens where the entire room was pressed to the walls, leaving the center unusable despite the space. When we come to look at your kitchen, we see beyond the colors of the cabinets and countertops. We see the appliance doors, the traffic ways, the storage, the lighting, and the gathering spaces. All of these things factor into remodeling your kitchen.

Built to Last

Everyday kitchens are subject to a beating. Cabinet doors are opened and shut, pots and pans are tossed into drawers, floors are subject to spills, pets, muddy boots, and salt from the winter. We think of the cabinets, countertops, floors, tile, and other materials and how they will hold up when the room is returned to you. The room should look great when you first see it, but it should continue to feel great for years to come.

 Made Just for You

Some families cook everyday, some make simple meals but gather at the island for conversation. Some want the kitchen to flow easily into the living area while others want just a touch of separation. Every Crystal Lake home is different, and so we ask questions about the way the room is used and how the homeowner would like to see it changed. We build a remodeling plan around you, the way you use the room, the square footage you have, and the design you prefer.

We Keep It Simple

Remodeling a kitchen involves a number of different factors, from cabinets to tile to appliances. It can become complicated and overwhelming. It shouldn't have to be. We provide an open line of communication about the process, the steps, what will happen, and when. If something unexpected should be found during the course of remodeling, we'll discuss it and make plans to address it. We want you to know what is happening and have a say in the process.

Our Kitchen Remodeling Process

Our process of remodeling kitchens is broken down into steps for your ease and understanding.

Consultation and Measurements

We come to your Crystal Lake home to view the room. You can show us the traffic way that is too tight, or the cabinets that don't hold what you need. You can tell us how you want to see the room changed, or what should stay the same.

We get measurements, view the traffic flow, and study the walls, appliances, and other aspects of the kitchen. We then talk with you about what can and cannot be changed.

Choose Your Layout and Look

Once we understand the room, we begin the design process. We work with you on the layout, appliances, islands, counters, storage needs, and space needed for traffic flow. After the layout is decided, we move on to cabinets, countertops, tile, flooring, lighting, and finishes. These aspects of the remodeling must fit the room, your style, and your needs.

Custom Build

Few kitchens are perfect rectangles. Walls and cabinets must be built to fit the space they occupy. We work with you to build the plans for your kitchen, and we order the products that fit your needs and space. We lay out the project in a manner that fits the room, and we avoid awkward spaces, rushed decisions, and unfitting finishes and products.

Installation Days

This is where the magic happens. We clear out old materials, make preparations, and install new materials. Countertops, cabinets, flooring, tile, lighting, plumbing fixtures, and appliances are all installed, depending on the needs and wants of the homeowner. We keep you posted on the progress to ensure that you are aware of what has been done and what will be done next.

Walkthrough and Tips

After all work is completed and the mess has been cleaned up, we walk through the kitchen with you. We open doors and drawers, check the traffic flow, and ensure that the finishes are up to par. We want you to enjoy the room! If something doesn't seem to be working, we want to hear about it. We can also offer some simple care and maintenance tips for the cabinets, countertops, tile, flooring, and other materials used in your remodeling.

We know that Crystal Lake homes can hide surprises behind old cabinets, flooring, and walls.

Crystal Lake Homes and Midwest Weather

Crystal Lake is home to sweltering summers, freezing winters, and a plethora of weather in between. These conditions trickle into the kitchen, from muddy and snowy boots to seasonal humidity. The entrance leading to the kitchen becomes a magnet for coats, bags, pets, and boots.

When we work on remodeling kitchens in Crystal Lake, this is taken into consideration. Flooring should stand up to the abuse, cabinets and drawers should function year round, and traffic ways should allow for the hauling of groceries and the removal of winter gear.

Finishes are important too, as they stand up to the use that the kitchen sees everyday, and the maintenance that the homeowner is willing to perform.

The room should continue to feel great, long after the initial remodeling has been completed.
